People are more than the jobs they've had. As true as that is for me, the array of my experience may also show the wide range of the different facets of me. I've had the privilege of working in:
Recruiting at EY
HR at an aerospace engineering company
Marketing at Amex
Sales at an entrepreneurial coaching company + at Peloton, Holt Renfrew, Tiffany & Co., and Saks Fifth Avenue, among other brands.
Currently I'm a co-founder of SEWT, a women's custom clothier specializing in women's custom suits. Gender equity is extremely important me and we need to fight for it on all fronts. My way of being an ally so far is twofold:
To create a resource where women can have access to custom suiting and other clothing made for their body, instead of being forced to feel like their bodies need to be a certain way to fit into pre-made clothing.
To uplift them and have ongoing dialogue to share their stories and the barriers they have and still encounter as women.
More to come on this...
The most important thing to me is experience. Having an others-oriented nature means I'm constantly considering how others feel. To some, that sounds exhausting, but to me, it brings me energy knowing that someone leaves a conversation with me a little bit better than they arrived.
I'm a John of all trades and a master of encouragement. Being a generalist has been a huge advantage to me because I can take a little from all the different aspects of me and curate an approach and thought process toward a situation. This makes me a unique problem solver because I often present a perspective that hasn't been considered before.
As an assessment junkie, I'll let them do most of the describing:
The Protagonist - ENFJ
These warm, forthright types love helping others, and they tend to have strong ideas and values. They back their perspective with the creative energy to achieve their goals.
Protagonists are natural-born leaders, full of passion and charisma. Forming around two percent of the population, they are oftentimes our politicians, our coaches and our teachers, reaching out and inspiring others to achieve and to do good in the world. With a natural confidence that begets influence, Protagonists take a great deal of pride and joy in guiding others to work together to improve themselves and their community.
2 wing 3
They tend to prefer building deep, personal connections. They have a passion for serving others. They tend to adapt their attitude to their environment, which can make them very effective communicators.
2w3 personalities tend to Understand and attend to the needs of others, seek acceptance and accomplishment, enjoy group settings and meeting new people, repress their own negative emotions, and avoid being disliked or undervalued.
Mediators have an ability to move from one Action Mode to another as needs arise. They excel when working in teams, pulling forces together, bridging differences, responding to needs, and blending abilities into productive efforts.
Those with an I/D personality tend to naturally express enthusiasm and energy with a purpose or goal in mind. Their strength is being a visionary and influencing others with persuasion and positive interaction.
To be needed and appreciated
To be strong and reliable
Where most people are more stacked with a specific influencing theme, it seems like being a generalist really shows here.
